“I wanted to help people – but I first had to learn German.”
Gabi is a caregiver from Romania. Today she works in a nursing home in Germany – confident, self-assured, and with a smile on her face. But her journey there wasn't easy. The beginning: A new job, but no German
“I had professional experience, motivation, and the desire to help,” says Gabi. “But without German, I couldn’t speak to the residents.” In her first month on the job, she barely understood the work schedules, let alone the needs of the patients.
Many international nurses know this feeling. In nursing, communication is not just important – it is vital.
Learn German systematically – the course at tricos
Gabi opted for a specialized German course for caregivers at tricos Bildung & Coaching. The special:
The courses combine general language support with medical terminology – specifically for everyday nursing practice.
The course content at tricos:
- German nursing system & professional language
- Patient communication & documentation
- Grammar, pronunciation, listening comprehension
- Preparation for telc German B1-B2 Nursing

Gabi reports: "For the first time, I was able to explain what I do myself."
In the interview, Gabi vividly describes how her everyday life has changed:
"Before I could only point. Today I can say: I'm measuring my blood pressure now. Or: I'll bring you something to drink. I feel much safer – and people trust me more.”

tricos – more than a course: Personal support and professional integration
tricos is more than just a language school. Gabi was not only accompanied during lessons, but also:
- when registering for the exam
- in communication with their employer
- for questions regarding the recognition of your professional qualification
tricos works closely with care facilities, employers and authorities, in order to enable sustainable integration.
Success factor: Permanent, trained teachers
A key element at tricos is the quality of its teachers. Unlike many providers, tricos works with permanently employed, regularly trained German as a Foreign Language (GFL) teachers – with pedagogical expertise and dedication.
“Our teachers know exactly how to support nursing staff linguistically and professionally,” says Robert Stricker, Managing Director of tricos.
Your path – with tricos
Gabi's story shows what is possible: With courage, support and professional language training, international caregivers can successfully arrive in Germany – both professionally and personally.
